Introduction

Welcome!

If you've stumbled upon my blog already, lucky you! But you weren't supposed to see this yet. Over the next few days I will be setting up the design and format more to my taste and more to what the theme of this blog is going to be. For now I'm still playing around and getting to know Blogger so that I can optimize this space.

What is going in here anyway?

Well, if you, reader, have ever spent time with a group of librarians you know they tend to be quirky, interesting people. This blog is going to highlight my particular flavor of quirkiness and how it relates to my job as a librarian. I have an irrational fondness for cute, elegant, and old-fashioned things, and I'm happiest when I can tie those things together with my everyday life and work, so I will chronicle my efforts here. There will also be discussions about libraries, library projects I'm working on, library conferences and informational sessions I attend, as well as discussions about books and the publishing industry and other fun things that I happen upon in my travels that relate to all things literary.

About the Author:

A life-long resident of upstate New York, I started with a Bachelor's degree in English-Creative Writing, and after taking a couple years off from school, I went back to get my Masters in Library Science. Or Masters of Science in Information Science as some universities prefer to call it now. I've worked with books since 2003, when I got a part-time job at a mall bookstore. I took a position as a Student Assistant in my campus library while working on my Bachelors, but kept going back to my bookstore job during school breaks. The combination of the two jobs--along with the fact that after finishing my Bachelor's I had no idea what to do with it!--made me realize that a career as a librarian would be not only something I was good at, but would be something I would love doing. When my little mall bookstore closed, I moved on to a larger bookstore across the street where I worked to pay my way through grad school. In May of 2011, I got my first position as a part-time reference librarian at a local community college. I still work part-time at the bookstore, and I also take occasional shifts at a local public library where I'm a substitute librarian.
